A message on behalf of the TCOW Committee:

The committee of Two Countries One World (TCOW) has made the tough decision to wrap up our initiatives for the time being. After 20 wonderful years, the team is ready to rest and excited to see what new path TCOW may take in the future. Following our Easter theology, we look forward to discovering how God will guide the resurrection of TCOW and its values in the future, and what other forms it may take.

We would like to extend our greatest thanks and appreciation to all who have been involved with TCOW over the years. We have been overwhelmed by the support, involvement, encouragement, ideas, participation, eagerness to learn, and excitement that so many people have contributed to TCOW. Thank you to past participants & leaders, volunteers, family & friends, congregations, churches and everyone who has supported TCOW emotionally, spiritually, financially and otherwise throughout our first 20 years. Our four pillars have allowed us to serve and learn through relationships with communities in Nicaragua, Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Colombia. What a difference we have all made in so many ways, including the development of active faith and global citizenship among hundreds of United Church youth. We look forward to future opportunities and conversations about Two Countries One World.

To uphold the values of TCOW, portions of our financial balance will be contributed to the Woodland Cultural Center Language Program in Brantford, Ontario, and to the ICM Clinic in Brisas del Mar, Colombia. A portion will continue to be held in trust for the future resurrection of the TCOW program.

The website and email (info@waterlootcow.ca) will continue to be monitored for anyone looking to reach out.

Two Countries – One World (TCOW) creates new friendships around shared celebrations and engagement with concerns of Peace & Conflict, Poverty & Inequality, Indigenous Issues, and Environmental Sustainability. Since 2003, UC young people have been enriched by a TCOW experience and found themselves turned toward studies and careers in educational, spiritual and social service or simply on life journeys informed as globally aware citizens.

After the long hiatus of COVID, TCOW is starting up for the school year of 2023-24. Our three weekend learning sessions throughout the fall and winter will prepare participants for a trip to the small Colombian community of Brisas del Mar, where they will be safely hosted by our UC Mission and Service partner, the Methodist Church of Colombia. Two former trips to this rural community have established a close relationship with community members there.

If you would value such an experience for your youth, along with any other of their friends who might be enthused by a chance to share in this experience (United Church or not), please invite them to explore these possibilities by linking into an INFO session being offered on Wednesday, June 21st at 6pm. At this meeting you will hear more about our plans, meet committee members and past alumni, ask your questions, and further consider what this year of adventure might mean for your youth.

Have a look through our website at waterlootcow.ca where our history and the applications for this coming year are available. Then join us at 6 pm on June 21st , using this link.

TCOW/YTCA Reunion 2022!

Hello friends!

My name is Gord Spence – I’ve acted as the registrar for Two Countries One World over the last decade or so. I’m writing to you today because the TCOW planning committee has been looking for ways to celebrate and revitalize the program that has been a formative part of so many people’s lives following a couple of very difficult years as we emerge from the pandemic.

We’re not 100% sure what the celebration will look like, but as of now we envision a drop-in / stay-over weekend at a retreat center/camp where we’ll celebrate and reflect on previous TCOW experiences and make lots of time for rekindling the connections between participants and leaders. The date will likely be in 2022 before we start our 2022/2023
program which will hopefully include a trip to Colombia (assuming the pandemic and political situation settle out by then).

So, to keep this short we have three requests for you:

     1. Please fill out this survey to indicate your level of interest (even if you have no interest so we don’t waste time planning!):

TCOW adds 2 important A’s!

Announcement:

For 17 years of programming and 9 pilgrimages to Central American countries, Two Countries One World, has sought to prepare a generation of United Church of Canada youth to become global citizens seeking to make positive changes in our world. Yet the ramifications of COVID-19, the possibility of a second wave, and the danger of carrying this virus to vulnerable communities and partners has led us to the difficult decision to suspend our Colombian program and exchange for 2020-2021. As organizers, we, too, must live up to the challenges of  global citizenship in these times. We hope to resume the program for 2022-2023 once a safer environment returns to the world.

Colombia 2019 – Day 11 – March 18, 2019

As I am writing this we are all currently on the plane ride back to Canada from the most incredible experience of our lives. Looking out of the airplane window the sky is ablaze with the most beautiful sunset all of us have ever seen. The sky is filled with a blood red surrounded by hues of yellow and orange, a work of art that could have only been created by God. It is the same sun setting as Colombia, Canada, and the rest of the world. Over the past 11 days we have immersed ourselves in the beauty and love of this planet which became so incredibly apparent to us over this trip. From the beautiful scenery we saw to the incredible people we met God was everywhere in Brisas. I know for a fact that God was also with all of our TCOW family. From our family in Brisas, especially Pastor Miguel, always full of cheer and a kind word to say, to Elizabeth, who is such a lovely, amazing, and caring lady. I know we would also like to give a huge thank you for all of those who are on the TCOW committee as well as all of our church families who have supported us every step of the way. We have all made such deep connections with each other over our week here and have created a bond like no other. We left Canada thinking we were going to help the people in Brisas, but I think all of us can agree that the people there helped us more. As Maggie said, “God gave us a time to dance and now that time is over, but my heart will forever keep on dancing.”

Colombia 2019 – Day 9 – March 16, 2019

Today was beach day! It was maybe my favourite say so far. We walked the three km to the beach in the morning, and came back at 3:30ish. We did a lot of fun things including playing chess, finding shells, and swimming. I talked to Elexa a lot (about being vegetarian, the environment, playing, etc…) and Elizabeth complimented me hardcore. She said that I stood out in the group and was confident and great and stuff. I also climbed a coconut tree, and has a good quiet time of the beach. Some pigs got their balls ripped off not that far from us, which was my definite low. It was a birthday party as well, for Aiden, Elexa and Sarah. There was cake and rice for lunch. There was this really gross juice that tasted like guava and had the texture of gelatinous liquid. viagra online prices This way you will enjoy taking the jelly in the meantime in the encompassing. 4. Tight blood vessels purchase levitra online counteract cardiac health, an effect common in aging. Keep in mind never to consider taking this medication such as- this cheap levitra on line is only for the people above the age of 65 face the difficulty of erectile dysfunction. Extremely diminished liver capacity or renal capacity is viagra doctor additionally a contraindication. I drank three glasses to get a dollar from Emily, and Caleb did the same, though it was more funny with him because he made a bigger deal out of it, I got scraped up from the coconut tree as well. I also got very sunburnt.
On the 14th of March, we got up at 7:05 (as usual) and did construction, not only in the morning, but for part of the afternoon as well. Mostly making concrete to fill those holes we made. We would be told- “5 sand 7 rock!” by John and bring that number of buckets to the “mixing station.” Then we would mix the sand and the concrete mix, the water with the mix of sand and concrete and put them in the holes we dug. It was a big ordeal, and was tiring, especially after lunch, but we had watermelon halfway through for energy so we were fine.
I’m not so good at shovelling- not only did my finger hurt but the concrete is HEAVY. Caleb was really good at it though. I was slightly offended when John tried to take my shovel and give it to Caleb, but I understood. He was a lot better at it than me. At 4:00 we played games with the kids, including octopus (though the kids thought we were saying “autobus”)
I played chess with Aiden and Gord in the evening (and won two out of three games) with some of the locals watching- trying to figure out the rules, I think.
Went to bed after reflecting, and has a very deep sleep, dreaming the whole time. It was a great day!
