Day 4 – Santa Marta

Driving is the most tiresome part of the different journeys that we have had to face while in El Salvador.  While traveling on winding dirt roads and listening to people singing random off key you have some time to absorb what has happened in the trip so far. We got to visit a radio station “Radio Victoria”.  The cool thing about this radio stations was, that they existed because they were partly funded by Mission and Service.  This station was created to allow the voices in the  different communities to be heard.   By allowing the voices of the people to be heard they are allowing the government to hear what needs to change.  We then went to the town of Santa Marta. There we went to the community centre and had lunch.  Then we listened to one of the town’s musicians sing to us about the history of Santa Marta. The home stay!!!!!

Day 3! So today we left our hostel to go to the village of La Mora. Before we met our family that we were going to be staying with, we went for a long hike, and it was sooooooo hot! While we were on the hike we met the teens of village and even with the language barrier, we made friends.  The home stay was one of the most exciting things that we were going to do on this trip. For my home stay, I was paired with a mother, and her teenage son and daughter.  And well, it was hard. Diligent – having elevated standards of performance for self and others, being thorough, precise, picky, critical, and stubborn when under stress. cheap levitra uk It’s believed according to recent studies conducted in Argentina have shown that cialis generika can be swallowed a little faster than six cups of watermelon. The language barrier was so big. But luckily we got a English Spanish dictionary which helped a lot, you see we would try and pronounce the Spanish words but then we would do such a bad job that we would have to show the word to the mother, and then they would understand.  The only thing that was bad was that they gave us so much food, and we couldn’t finish it. This day was amazing overall.  It was definitely an experience that we will all remember.

Day 2 – San Salvador

Hey everyone! Kate here 🙂 we have arrived safely in el salvador and everyone is happy and healthy. We’ve been singing songs to occupy ourselves but the beautiful scenery has caught our eye while travelling on our nifty little bus. So far we’ve met our three chaperones, Alvaro, Justine, and Guillarmo, and our bus driver Walter. I can’t begin to explain the beauty of el Salvador but ill try… 😉

Getting off the air plane, the humidity hit us like a brick wall and a lot of us were overwhelmed by the heat. Since then we have come to terms with it and in my opinion its the perfect weather; not too hot, not too cold, and with a light breeze.

So far we have dug deep into the history of Oscar Romero and visited many historic sites in his memory. The history was overwhelming and very different than we expected. A lot of us found it difficult to look at the pictures from the Jesuit priest massacre at the university. This experience will help shape our trip to understand the horrors that the people went through. After learning this we are striving to better the lives of the people in the communities we visit!

We’ve been exposed to the “Rico” (delicious) Salvadoran cuisine and have tried the world famous poupusas which are like meat and cheese filled pancakes. We had a really funny experience with a local public bathroom. We paid fifteen cents to take a pee on a toilet with no seat! Another thing that has really touched our hearts is how nice and friendly the people are here! They love when we wave at them from our bus! The people here have so much love for us already and we’ve only shared a couple smiles.
